Testing Of Spirits

Testing Of Spirits

Years ago, I joined a prayer meeting and heard members of the prayer group claim various people they knew to be witches, warlocks, and adulterers. Some individuals accused of wrongdoing were not part of the community and had only been mentioned by another member of the prayer group. The accusers claimed that “God revealed their sin” to them.

For example, a neighbor might be accused of being a witch because she gave a stern look. Could this have resulted from them receiving an accusatory glare? Of course!

It was later revealed that the members of the prayer group had never met the individuals they accused. Additionally, none of them sought scriptural or physical evidence to support their claims. As a result, the session appeared to be more about gossiping rather than focusing on prayer.

Following these events, I created a “testing of spirits” list for those interested in understanding scriptural foundations for how to judge individuals. This list references content from the Bible and serves as a tool to offer an unbiased, scripture-based assessment of people who claim that God revealed something to them, ensuring it aligns with scripture. It is a simple tool, but certainly very effective.

Lastly, the following verse from Deuteronomy 11:29 compares two mountains, Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal. Mount Gerizim had the blessing, and Mount Ebal had the curses. This blessing and cursing of the mountains demonstrates that an individual can only live on one mountain at a time. Because if your foot is on one mountain, then that is where you dwell. But if your foot is on Mount Gerizim, then that is where you dwell. You cannot dwell on both mountains at the same time!

Mount Gerizim vs Mount Ěyḇal

And it shall be, when יהוה your Elohim has brought you into the land which you go to possess, that you shall put the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ěyḇal. (Deut 11:29 ISR)

The Mountain Of Blessing: The Mountain Of Curse

☐  Deuteronomy 11:29 describes two mountains: Mount Gerizim and Mount Ěyḇal. A blessing was placed upon Mount Gerizim and a curse placed upon Mount Ěyḇal.  Why is one mountain blessed and one cursed? Because one cannot stand with a foot on each mountain at the same time! Either one is blessed or one is cursed. Discernment is always based on the Word of Yehovah!

☐  Note: If you do not have a direct relationship that allows for a true witness to the fruit they bear, you cannot accurately judge if one is truly of Yehovah without a second witness. If unknown, pray for the individual and pray that the Spirit of Yehovah reveal truth.

☐  Be very cautious wrongly calling anyone a wicked spirit without thoroughly testing the spirits according to the Word of Yehovah (see ‘Bearing False Witness’ below)

Fruit or works

The Fruit Of the Spirit vs The Works Of The Flesh

“But beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are savage wolves. “By their fruits you shall know them. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles? “So every good tree yields good fruit, but a rotten tree yields wicked fruit. “A good tree is unable to yield wicked fruit, and a rotten tree to yield good fruit. “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. “So then, by their fruits you shall know them – “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens.” (Matt 7:15-21 ISR)

“And the works of the flesh are well-known, which are these: adultery, whoring, uncleanness, indecency, idolatry, drug sorcery, hatred, quarrels, jealousies, fits of rage, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, murders, drunkenness, wild parties, and the like – of which I forewarn you, even as I also said before, that those who practise such as these shall not inherit the reign of Elohim. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustworthiness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no Torah.  And those who are of Messiah have impaled the flesh with its passions and the desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.” (Gal 5:19-26 ISR)

“And Yeshua said to him, ” ‘You shall love Yehovah your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great command. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commands hang all the Torah and the Prophets.” (Matt 22:37-40 ISR)

Spirit of Elohim Test

One Speaking By The Spirit Of Elohim

“Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of Elohim says יהושע is a curse, and no one is able to say that יהושע is Master except by the Set-apart Spirit.” (1 Cor 12:3 ISR)

“And there are different kinds of workings, but it is the same Elohim who is working all in all. And to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for profiting, for to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit, and to another belief by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit, and to another operations of powers, and to another prophecy, and to another discerning of spirits, and to another kinds of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues.” (1 Cor 12:6-10 ISR)

“Beloved ones, do not believe every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of Elohim, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of Elohim: Every spirit that confesses that יהושע Messiah has come in the flesh is of Elohim, and every spirit that does not confess that יהושע Messiah has come in the flesh is not of Elohim. And this is the spirit of the anti-messiah which you heard is coming, and now is already in the world.” (1 Jn 4:1-3 ISR)

Individual Proclaims Yeshua

☐  Individual says, “Yeshua Messiah is Master and has come upon the earth”

**Spirit Belonging To Yehovah**

Individual Cannot Proclaim Yeshua

☐  Individual says he cannot confess, “Yeshua Messiah is Master and has come in the flesh”.

**Spirit NOT Belonging To Elohim And Is Unredeemed**

Note: Even the believer with the gift of discerning of spirits MUST have a second/third witness of Yehovah’s Word in operation within the individual in question. Therefore, if no witness is shown, the believer is to wait and pray while asking Yehovah for His truth regarding that individual before making any incorrect moves or accusations, or they will be held accountable by Yehovah (see bearing false witness below).

Unpardonable Sins

Despising Birthright Inheritance

“And Ya‛aqoḇ cooked a stew, and Ěsaw came in from the field, and he was weary. And Ěsaw said to Ya‛aqoḇ, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” That is why his name was called Eḏom. But Ya‛aqoḇ said, “Sell me your birthright today.” And Ěsaw said, “Look, I am going to die, so why should I have birthright?” Then Ya‛aqoḇ said, “Swear to me today.” And he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Ya‛aqoḇ. Ya‛aqoḇ then gave Ěsaw bread and stew of lentils. And he ate and drank, and rose up and left. Thus Ěsaw despised his birthright. (Gen 25:29-34 ISR)

as it has been written, “Ya‛aqoḇ I have loved, but Ěsaw I have hated.” (Rom 9:13, Mal 1:3 ISR)

Blaspheming & Cursing The Name Of Yehovah And His Holy Spirit

“‘And the Israeli woman’s son blasphemed the Name, and cursed. So they brought him to Mosheh. Now his mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Diḇri, of the tribe of Dan. And they put him under guard, that it might be declared to them at the mouth of יהוה. And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, ‘Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and all those who heard him shall lay their hands on his head, and all the congregation shall stone him. And speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Anyone who curses his Elohim shall bear his sin. And he who blasphemes the Name of יהוה shall certainly be put to death, and all the congregation certainly stone him, the stranger as well as the native. When he blasphemes the Name, he is put to death.” (Lev 24:16 ISR)

“Now יהוה is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of יהוה is, there is freedom.” (2 Cor 3:17 ISR)

“’Because of this I say to you, all sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven men. “And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Aḏam, it shall be forgiven him, but whoever speaks against the Set-apart Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. (Mt 12:31-32 ISR)

☐  Despises birthright inheritance (by selling and despising birthright (i.e. the selling of one’s birthright, which is the birthright given to all men, the opportunity of redemption through Yeshua))

☐  Blasphemed and cursed the NAME OF YEHOVAH (Note: “God” is not His name)

☐  Blasphemed and cursed the Holy Spirit of Yehovah (THE HOLY SPIRIT IS YEHOVAH)

**Committed Unpardonable Sins – CANNOT be redeemed**

Occult and false prophets

Exposing The Occult

“Do not turn to mediums, and do not seek after spiritists to be defiled by them. I am יהוה your Elohim.” (Lev 19:31)

“Let no one be found among you who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practises divination, or a user of magic, or one who interprets omens or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. “For whoever does these is an abomination to יהוה, and because of these abominations יהוה your Elohim drives them out from before you.” (Deut 18:10-12 ISR)

“Say to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘Any man of the children of Yisra’ĕl, or of the strangers who sojourn in Yisra’ĕl, who gives any of his offspring to Moleḵ, shall certainly be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. ‘And I, I shall set My face against that man, and shall cut him off from the midst of his people, because he has given of his offspring to Moleḵ, so as to defile My set-apart place and to profane My set-apart Name. ‘And if the people of the land at all hide their eyes from the man, as he gives any of his offspring to Moleḵ, and they do not kill him, then I shall set My face against that man and against his clan, and shall cut him off – and all who go whoring after him, even go whoring after Moleḵ – from the midst of their people. And the being who turns to mediums, and to spiritists, to go whoring after them, I shall set My face against that being and cut him off from the midst of his people. ‘And you shall set yourselves apart, and shall be set-apart, for I am יהוה your Elohim,” (Lev 20:2-7 ISR)

And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their Elohim? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living? To the Torah and to the witness! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because they have no daybreak. And they shall pass through it hard pressed and hungry. And it shall be, when they are hungry, that they shall be wroth and curse their sovereign and their Elohim, looking upward. And they shall look to the earth and see distress and darkness, gloom of hard times, and be driven into thick darkness.” (Isa 8:19-22 ISR)

Let your hand be lifted up against your adversaries, and all your enemies be cut off.

“And it shall be in that day,” declares יהוה, “that I shall cut off your horses out of your midst, and I shall destroy your chariots. “And I shall cut off the cities of your land, and I shall pull down all your strongholds. “And I shall cut off witchcrafts out of your hand, and let you have no magicians. “And I shall cut off your carved images, and your pillars from your midst, so that you no longer bow down to the work of your hands. “And I shall pluck your Ashĕrim out of your midst, and I shall destroy your cities.” (Mic 5:9-14 ISR)

“For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as wickedness and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of יהוה, He also does reject you as sovereign.” 1 Sam 15:23

“And many of those who had practised magic brought their books together, burning them before all.” (Acts 19:19a, ISR)

But the Spirit distinctly says that in latter times some shall fall away from the belief, paying attention to misleading spirits, and teachings of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having been branded on their own conscience, (1 Tim 4:1-2 ISR, Please read entire chapter).

“But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My Name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other mighty ones, even that prophet shall die.’ “And when you say in your heart, ‘How do we know the word which יהוה has not spoken?’ – when the prophet speaks in the Name of יהוה and the word is not, or comes not, that is the word which יהוה has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.” (Deut 18:20-22 ISR)

Abominations Of Yehovah

☐  Rebellion = Divination (i.e. Witchcraft)

☐  Stubbornness = Wickedness And Idolatry

☐  Practice Magic = Occult

☐  Mediums (i.e. Those who speak to the dead)

☐  Spiritualists (i.e. Wizards)

☐  Interpreter Of Omens

☐  Sorcerer

☐  Gives His Offspring To Molek or Whoring After Molek

☐  Bow Down To Carved Images & Bow Down To The Work Of Your Hands

☐  Follow Teachings of Demons = occult

☐  Speaking lies and hypocrisy

☐  Paying attention to misleading spirits

☐  False Prophet = Speaks a word not from Yehovah, or from another spirit, or presumptuously = death

Breaking The Occult

☐  Read Micah 5:9-14

☐  Read Deut 18:9-12

☐  Read Lev 20:2-7

☐  Burn all occult items and books

☐  Repent and pray the prayer of redemption in the new covenant as shown below (i.e. deliverance)

Judgements

Making False Accusations Brings Repercussions From Yehovah!

“You do not bear false witness against your neighbour.” Exo 20:16

“And the judges shall diligently search and see if the witness is a false witness, who has falsely accused his brother,” then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from your midst.” (Deut 19:18-19 ISR)

“You destroy those speaking falsehood; יהוה loathes a man of blood and deceit.” (Ps 5:6 ISR)

Therefore, O man, you are without excuse, everyone who judges, for in which you judge another you condemn yourself, since you who judge practise the same wrongs. And we know that the judgment of Elohim is according to truth against those who practise such wrongs. And do you think, O man, you who judge those practising such wrongs, and doing the same, that you shall escape the judgment of Elohim? (Rom 2:1-3 ISR)

Judgements

☐  False Witness = Condemns oneself for they practice the same wrongs which they accused = judgement of Elohim upon them

☐  Judges are to diligently seek if one is a false witness (i.e., falsely accusing one’s brother)

☐  Do to him what he thought to do to his brother

Actions For Forgiveness

☐  Repent to Yehovah of sins and be cleansed

Prayer of Redemption in the New Covenant

“See, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when I shall make a renewed covenant with the house of Yisra’ĕl and with the house of Yehuḏah, not like the covenant I made with their fathers in the day when I strengthened their hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares יהוה. For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ĕl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people. “And no longer shall they teach, each one his neighbour, and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know יהוה,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares יהוה. “For I shall forgive their crookedness, and remember their sin no more.” (Jer 31:31-34 ISR)

‘And now, if you diligently obey My voice, and shall guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession above all the peoples – for all the earth is Mine – ‘and you shall be to Me a reign of priests and a set-apart nation.’ Those are the words which you are to speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl.” (Exo 19:5-6 ISR)

“and has made us sovereigns and priests to His Elohim and Father, to Him be esteem and rule forever and ever. Amĕn.” (Rev 1:6 ISR)

“and made us sovereigns and priests to our Elohim, and we shall reign upon the earth.” (Rev 5:10 ISR)

“If you love Me, you shall guard My commands. “And I shall ask the Father, and He shall give you another Helper, to stay with you forever – the Spirit of the Truth, whom the world is unable to receive, because it does not see Him or know Him. But you know Him, for He stays with you and shall be in you. (Jn 14:15-17 ISR)

“But the Helper, the Set-apart Spirit, whom the Father shall send in My Name, He shall teach you all, and remind you of all that I said to you.” (Jn 14:26 ISR)

“Do you not know that you are a Dwelling Place of Elohim and that the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you?” (1 Cor 3:16 ISR)

Prayer Of Redemption

“Yehovah in the Name of Yeshua, according to the terms of your new covenant described in Jeremiah 31:31-34, you offer a covenant similar to the covenant made to the children of Israel in Exodus 19:5-6 when they were offered a covenant to ‘hear and obey’ and become a peculiar treasure and a reign of priests and a set-apart nation unto Yehovah. In that covenant, the children of Israel refused to hear and obey and requested Moses to intercede between You and the children of Israel instead. Thus, they broke Your covenant. However, in Your new covenant, the Torah is written upon our hearts and inward parts, and we are filled with the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) who will lead us in all truth and will remind us of all Yeshua said and did.

Therefore, I have reviewed the terms of Your covenant to ‘hear and obey’ and agree to the terms of Your covenant today. I confess that Yeshua, the only begotten Son of Yehovah, laid down His life for me and ratified the New Covenant with His own blood and became the Lamb of Yehovah and took my punishment upon His body.

I ask that You forgive me of my sins, known and unknown, and ask You to wash me clean with the Blood of Yeshua. I ask that You help me become clean and forgive, and You will also forgive me.

Yehovah, today I receive the Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) who will teach me and remind me of all Yeshua said in His Word. I know the Ruach HaKodesh will abide in me and will testify of Yeshua, the Lamb of Yehovah.

Thank you, Yehovah for my redemption and my life in You. I belong to Yeshua, and Yeshua belongs to Elohim. Amen.”
