Cochin Hebrew Matthew
The Cochin Hebrew Matthew is a copy of the Hebrew gospel (MS Oo.1.32) written by the Apostle Matthew. This Hebrew manuscript exhibits great promise as it contains the Hebrew grammar of the late Second Temple to include Mishnaic Hebrew with Aramaisms. For it is believed that in the First Century of Judea, the talmidim (i.e. disciples) spoke rabbinic Hebrew – with a subset of rabbinic Hebrew represented in the Mishnah called “Mishnaic Hebrew.” For in the First Century, after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem – and for the following couple of centuries, Mishnaic Hebrew was used and was also included in the Dead Sea Scrolls. The grammar of Cochin Matthew contains a striking difference in the writing style of his letter that brings a deeper meaning to what is believed could be the original words by the Apostle Matthew.
The Project Truth Ministries (PTM) team is currently transcribing, researching and translating the Cochin Hebrew book of Matthew MS Oo.1.32 (Chapters 1-28). As each chapter is released for publication, those chapters will be available for download below:
