Nuweiba Crossing Site

The Nuweiba crossing site is located at the gulf of Aqaba. This body of water is the Bible Yom Suph or Red Sea. The crossing site is located between Egypt (the Sinai Peninsula) and Saudi Arabia, specifically the ancient land of Midian. Nuweiba is a delta shaped beach located on the Egyptian side and is formed by wash out from a wadi. A wadi is an Arabic term for a bed or valley that is a river or a seasonal wash between mountains. The beach of Nuweiba is very large and is the only location along the Gulf of Aqaba that could fit 2.5 million people along with animals and personal belongings. Being a place where one single wadi leads to this beach it is fitting with the Bible where the Israelites were trapped between the water and Pharoah. Exodus 14:3 “For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, ‘They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness has closed them in.”

It is written in Exodus 14:21-22 “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and YHVH caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.” At this location an Eastern wind would be a direction that would be perfect to expose the underwater land bridge as the land bridge travels west to east. There would be a great deal of water on either side at this location to make for a wall on both sides just like the Bible describes.

Out from this beach is a natural underwater sloped land bridge with 6-7 degrees slope. This land bridge goes down to approximately 300 feet deep at its deepest and extends a distance of 9.8 miles across to the Saudi Arabian side. There is a sheer drop off on either side with one side being 800 feet deep and the other side 1,000. Early researchers that went diving along this land bridge captured footage and found remains that matched the biblical story of the exodus. Those things found were coral encrusted Egyptian chariots and chariot parts, swords, horse bones and human bones. The coral shapes appear to be chariot wheels by themselves or chariot frames without wheels. This brings to mind in the Bible God removing the chariot wheels, Exodus 14:24-25 “Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that YHVH looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the army of the Egyptians. And He took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from the face of Israel, for YHVH fights for them against the Egyptians.”

The Bible speaks about King Solomon having a presence at Elat and in the Gulf of Aqaba; 1 Kings 9:26 “King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.” On Nuweiba beach there was a large pillar erected. It has been moved closer to the road but is still there today. On the Saudi Arabia side there was found a large pillar that contained paleo Hebrew with the names Mizrahim (Egypt), pharaoh, Moses, Solomon. It is believed that perhaps Solomon had these two pillars erected as memorial stones for the Red Sea crossing site. The pillar on the Saudi side was removed from its location and its whereabouts is unknown at this time.
