Springs of Moses

Here is a possible location for the encampment by the sea. At this location is an oasis located right next to the Red Sea (or Yom Suph). The Bible details one of the camp sites along the route after the parting of the Red Sea next to the sea, in Numbers 33:10 “They moved from Elim and camped by the Red Sea.” It is important to think about these different oases when traveling the land of Midian. There are not many water sources and many water sources are usually an oasis in this region. With a large caravan of people, the Israelites would need to travel from water source to water source to survive. At this location there is the tradition that Moses was at this location. That is why this site is called the Springs of Moses. There are freshwater springs that bubble out of the ground. It varies from time to time, however there are 12 springs that produce water at this location. Also next to this site is an ancient Midianite fortress that can be dated after the Israelites passed through. However, this shows that the Midianite kingdom was in this region and their reach did extend out to this area.
